Welcome to the website of the Cardiff Rail Branch of the National Union of Rail, Maritime & Transport Workers (RMT).
Our union is the largest specialist transport workers' union in the UK with over 80,000 members and growing.
The RMT Cardiff Rail Branch has over 600 members and is the largest RMT Branch in South Wales. We can claim to have been at the very centre of one of the greatest battles of industrial trades unionism on the railway - as the ASRS (Associated Society of Railway Servants, the forerunner of the NUR and RMT) members of our Branch were involved in the Taff Vale Dispute of 1900 which led directly to the enshrinement in law of our right to take strike action against an employer with the 1906 Trades Dispute Act.
Our members work for Arriva Trains Wales, Network Rail, First Great Western, DB Schenker, Freightliner, Thales, Carillion Rail, Jarvis Rail, Select Service Partners (Compass Catering Group), Amey Rail, Renown Railway Services, Bridgen Enterprises, Colas Rail, Birse Rail, Tracksafe UK, Lightbridge Support Services, Coyle Rail, SkyBlue, and Veolia Bus.
RMT Cardiff Rail Branch organises workers across the Welsh capital and beyond, from Permanent Way staff at Canton and Radyr, Signallers from Barry Town in the south to Abercynon in the north, East Usk in the east and Cardiff Panel covering as far as Bridgend in the west. Traincrew at Cardiff St. Davids House are represented alongside catering workers at Cardiff Central, and Track and Signalling Technicians from across the area. If you work in the transport industry then we should already be organising you and representing you in our area - if we're not then get in touch now!!
RMT Cardiff Rail branch is proud to be an all grades Branch - part of an industrial trades union. Our union's Rule Book commits us to: "secure the complete organisation of all workers employed by any board, company or authority in connection with rail, sea and other transport and ancillary undertakings".
Branch meetings are held at the Sandringham Hotel, St. Mary Street, Cardiff. For further details please see the Branch Meetings page. All meetings are open to all RMT members, so come along and meet your fellow trade unionists.
If you work in the transport industry you need to be a member of RMT. If you haven't already joined, don't delay! Contact the RMT Cardiff Rail Branch Secretary: -
