Would all members please note that there will be a special Branch meeting on Sunday the 28th of February at 10.45am in the Sandringham Hotel, the normal venue for our Branch meetings. The purpose of this meeting will be to decide if our Branch will support, financially and logistically, any of the parties contesting seats in Cardiff in the forthcoming General Election. The reason that this meeting is being held so far in advance of any possible General Election date is because the Union rule book, in rule 23, paragraph 25, states that our Branch must seek permission from the Council of Executives if we wish to support a party other than the Labour Party, which in the current political climate is a possibility Branch must consider, and it can take a couple of weeks for this permission to be granted.
Members should make every effort to attend this important meeting, as it will give you a very real opportunity to have your say about how the Branch political fund is used - a very real concern in these current times when it can appear that none of the major parties seem to want to address the very real worries of the workers, but care more for pandering to the interests of bankers.
